We are students of Senior High School 1 Bogor, Indonesia, would like happily to answer your question about our famous folktale in our country. We have many folktales in Indonesia since Indonesia consists of many islands and many tribes. Each island has its own folktales. Because our school is located in West Java Island, we decided to tell you one famous folktale from this island.   The title is Sangkuriang. Here is the story:
Sangkuriang
The legend of 'Tangkuban Parahu'
Once upon a time there was a prince named Dayang Sumbi. In one afternoon, Dayang Sumbi was weaving; suddenly her ball of thread fell down. Because she was too lazy to get it herself, she declared that if there was a man who could take it for her, he would make him her husband, but if it was a woman, she would make her as her sister.
After she declared her announcement, a male dog namely Tumang took the ball of thread to her. She was very shocked to realize that she had to marry the dog. But the dog transformed itself into a handsome man. In fact, the dog is a god. So, they were married and had a boy namely Sangkuriang.
