The Coaching Cycle
Improving instruction by adopting new instructional strategies, striving to help students develop higher order thinking skills, or integrating technology to enhance learning is a long-term process. Coaches may collaborate with the same teachers for years as they continue to work toward offering their students the kind of learning opportunities that will meet student needs.
The Coaching Cycle reflects this continuous improvement process. The information gathered in the reflection process after each learning activity, what worked and what could be improved, is an important part of what the teacher and coach assess as the starting point for the next collaboration. The Coaching Cycle also offers a structured approach for collaboration while planning, implementing, and reflecting on learning activities.
- Locate The Coaching Cycle handout and review the stages of the Coaching Cycle.
- Follow the handout directions to align the sample roles with the stages of the Coaching Cycle.
- You will use your ideas in the next activity.
