Peer Coaching

Getting Started - Why Peer Coaching?

What do we know about the attributes of effective professional development?

This acivity is an assignment to be completed during your first contact session with your facilitator. It is being used to illustrate the use of an online assignment submission in the Canvas Peer Coach community, the community site which you will use during the e-Learning Phases of this course.

Part A: Discuss Peer Coaching

  1. Your facilitator will assign you to groups of four. Coaches and principals from the same school should be in the same group.
  2. As you discuss the question below use a word processing document to record the thoughts of the group.
  3. You will have twenty minutes to discuss the question below.
  4. Each participant should then save the document using the full name as the file name and submit it to Canvas as part of this assignment. You will find the assignment in Canvas in the Getting Started module. Look for the A+ icon next to "Why Peer Coaching?"
Think of a time that you learned something from a professional development experience that changed your practice as a teacher or principal.
    • What made the experience so effective?
  5. Proceed offline in the contact session. Listen to the group reports its key findings on the characteristics of typical and highly effective professional development.
  6. The facilitator will summarise ideas on a big screen/flip chart.
