Digital Storytelling #8: Different ways to convert stories written as presentations to videos

Submitted by Fiona Beal

Nowadays a student’s story writing no longer needs to remain hidden in their classwork books at school. They can easily share their hard work online, even in the form of videos. here are three ways to take a story that has been written and illustrated in a presentation format such as Powerpoint and convert it to a video fomat online

1. How to convert a PowerPoint presentation to a video file

I was delighted when I came across this very clear explanation of how to convert a PowerPoint to a video file. It is actually very easy! Before you do the conversion you add music and narration if desired. The great thing is that once you done the conversion you can add the video to YouTube or Vimeo.

2. Using Keynote & iMovie to Create a YouTube Video

This tutorial demonstrates how to use Keynote to create content for a YouTube video and then use iMovie to edit the video clips and add sound effects and narration.

3. Create a video using the free application ‘Screencast-o-matic

A fantastic way to make a video from a presentation is to use a free screencasting application called Screencastomatic. You can narrate into it as you record the movie file. The following tutorial shows how to create a lecture video but the same principle applies for creating a story video. One thing to note is that with the free version you cannot exceed 15 minutes for the length of the video.

Once made, the screencasting video can be added to YouTube.

Try one of these ideas! You’ll be surprised at the great results you’ll achieve.
