The Department of Basic Education in South Africa has published a Professional Development Framework for Digital Learning, subtitled, Building educator competencies in facilitating learning with digital tools and resources. The South African community of teachers and teacher educators who use digital tools and resources to support improved learning outcomes readily welcomes this framework. The purpose of the framework is described as being to, “provide guidelines for professional development, specifically in order to ensure competent educators who “use ICTs to enhance teaching and learning” and leaders and support staff who are able to facilitate the development of educator digital learning competencies”.
