Activity 9.2

Step 3: Reviewing a Sample Case

In this step, you will open a sample learner case for The Case of the Mysterious Malady project designed for Senior Phase learners. For context, review the project summary and Curriculum-Framing Questions for the project below. Then, with a partner, open the sample learner case and review the team's exploration of the case prompt, What is the cause and source of Sally's illness? Consider the elements of an argument as you review this argument case.

  1. Open Showing Evidence from your Favorites. (www.intel.com/education/showingevidence)

  2. Click Project Examples.

  3. Click Unit Plans.

  4. Click the Unit Plan title, Mysterious Malady.

  5. Scroll down to view the live version of the Showing Evidence case. With your partner, explore some of the evidence, explanations, ratings, and comments by double-clicking the elements in the case.

  6. What questions would you ask this team about its ratings and explanations?

  7. What kinds of questions could the teacher ask, either verbally or as comments in the tool, to help learners reflect more deeply on their thinking in general?

  8. Review the Curriculum-Framing Questions at the top of the Project Plan. How does the Showing Evidence Tool help learners find answers to the Focus Questions and help them begin to understand the Critical Question?
