What is Your Ancient
Egyptian Name? How would you like to be
named "The Girl Has Come" or "The Boy Makes Us Happy?" Even
better, you could be named after a powerful god, like "Ra Is

What did the people of
Ancient Egypt Dress Like? When you awake
the dry heat would hit you like a wall. The weather in Ancient
Egypt, as in current day Egypt, is almost always hot and dry.
That's why most young children went around completely naked. When
you reached your sixth birthday you would begin to wear clothes
that would protect you from the intense dry heat. When you venture
outside it is imperative that you would put oils on your skin to
keep it from cracking in the dry heat and you make sure that you
wore very lightweight clothing that would cover most of your skin.
Your lightweight clothing would keep the sun off of them while
letting the cool breezes that blew off the Nile River cool you
down. Don't forget to apply your make-up and jewelry to honor the
gods. Yes, boys wore make-up and jewelry, too!

What games did the
Ancient Egyptians play? Even though there
was plenty of work for children in Ancient Egypt they had a lot of
playtime, also. Egyptian children were encouraged to have fun.
After working, kids would often go for a swim in the Nile River,
play tug o' war, leap frog, or a board game (Mancala or Senet
(like checkers.) Sound familiar! That's right Egyptian children
did many of the same activities that you do. Of course,
the children of Ancient Egypt didn't play with their Star Wars
Action figures (they were invented about 3,200 years later) but
they did have similar toys. Often times, children would play with
a wooden pull horse, clay dolls, or animals that were carved out
of stone.
