Challenging Learners

In innovative projects you will encounter questions that challenge the learners to think at higher levels. We call these focus questions, because they focus the learners on the investigation and the challenge of the project. The general features of such questions are:

• A problem or challenge is stated
• They encompass assessment standards
• They provide a directed focus for learners’ activities

Task: Identifying Focus Questions

1. Open the document titled Project Analysis: Identifying Focus Questions.
   You will also need to access Sample Projects
   
   
2. Identify the focus questions that might have driven these projects. (20 minutes)
   
   
3. Participate in a brief discussion where you can share the focus questions that you have developed. (10 minutes)

Creating focus questions is more of an art than a science.
