It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nomty Gcaba today, the 9th of March 2017 after a prolonged illness. Nomty was a much-loved member of SchoolNet South Africa family. She first became involved with SchoolNet way back in the late 1990s when she was a teacher at Mpophomeni High School in KZN. For a time Nomty undertook part-time training work for SchoolNet always acting as a peer coach and mentor to her fellow teachers. By 2005 she moved to Johannesburg to become one of the full-time employees at the Schoolnet head office where she was part of the glue that kept all the staff together. Although she continued to conduct training and co-ordinate projects, Nomty played a highly supportive role in the office teaching us how to fix office chair from sinking he learned from a site online and always had time to listen. Nomty moved back to KZN to be close to her family in 2010 but continued to work for Schoolnet in KZN until 2015. Everyone who knew Nomty will think of her as a knowledgeable and highly competent teacher and trainer who was always full of fun and jokes. Her passing is a terrible loss to us all as well as to education in general. She never failed to have a positive impact on all those around her and is going to be greatly missed.
The funeral will be on March 18th at Nomty’s home in Lower Illovo.
