CALLING ALL YOUNG WRITERS… ARE YOU THE 2020 WORD WARRIOR?

« Return to Latest News

Every year, READ Educational Trust encourages budding young authors to challenge their creativity in the Word Warrior Competition. The 2019 competition yielded a high literary standard, making it difficult to pick the eventual winner. We are pleased to announce that Sivani Pillay from Kamalinee Primary School walked away with the ‘WORD WARRIOR 2019’ title, a R1000 cash prize and books to the value of R5000 for her school. Well done, Sivani!

This year’s competition continues the focus on our furry hero, the foxy Detective Inkomba, and entrants aged 9 to 16 are required to write fresh, authentic dialogue for a play, a movie or to use in a story.

We encourage entrants’ imaginations to run wild, creating a scenario where Detective Inkomba solves a mystery of sorts. He could set off on interplanetary travel, engage in covert affairs, local affairs, or even a love affair! The sky’s the limit!

We urge parents and teachers to tell children about our competition. In so doing, we could discover some budding young South African writing talent!
