One of the really useful features that blogging platforms, and definitely Blogger, includes is the ability to write a post and then schedule when you would like it to be published. I haven’t used this much in the past, but now, writing about it, I can see a lot of advantages to using this feature. I thought I would give a quick outline here on how to do this.
1. Write your post in the normal manner using the new post template and give the post its title.
2. When you have fi...
One of the Google features I absolutely love is Google Hangouts. They have incredible potential for the teacher in the classroom, for professional development purposes and for older students to use for collaboration. Google, of course, is always improving its projects and you never know when something is about to improve before your eyes, and this has proved true of Hangouts! Here are three new features that I have noticed.
1. ‘Hangouts chat’ now get an extension on the Chrome toolbar

What, where and when?
SchoolNet is pleased to announce another very exciting event that is not to be missed – the first of its kind on the African continent! On September 26th & 27th SchoolNet and Parklands College will be hosting a Google in Education Summit in Cape Town at Parklands College – This type of summit is very popular overseas so we are thrilled to be able to bring it to South Africa.
This not-to-be-missed two day event focuses on deploying, integrating, an...
What are Google glasses?
submitted by Fiona Beal
I have been reading bits and pieces about Google glasses, and today I thought I would investigate further. All I can say is ‘Wow, wow, wow’. it is quite mind-blowing. You wear them like glasses but they appear to give information, record experiences and allow you to connect with others.

Recently, in October, I had the amazing experience of being selected to attend the Google Teacher Academy in New York – an experience, I think, every teacher should aim for! I have written a couple of blogposts about this experience should you wish to take a quick peek!
1) A South African Educator heads off for the Google Teacher Academy in New York
2) Reflecting on the Google Teacher Academy experience
3) Gleanings from the Google Teacher Acad...

One of the first things I think any teacher who is interested in technology-integration should do is create their own classroom blog. A classroom blog can transform your class even if the only computer in the class is yours – your laptop! It will give the parents a peek into the classroom setup, and it will join you to a whole lot of new blogging teacher friends around the world. You can involve your students in your blog in so many exciting ways. Google̵...

Yesterday in our new 30 Days of Google series I wrote a post about the Chrome browser ‘Get to know the Chrome browser’. Today I want to tell you about some of my favourite extensions (all free) that you can add to your Google Chrome browser bar to make browsing a breeze!
What exactly is a Chrome extension?
Chrome extensions are free extra features and functionality that you can choose to add to your browser from the Chrome Web Store. Generally I don’t go to the web store...
Today I am starting a series of 30 posts about Google tools that I just love! Having recently returned from the Google Teacher Academy in New York and still basking in the memory of it all, I thought a 30 day series in conjunction with a short free online SchoolNet course on Google products would be very apt. (Oh New York! I can hardly believe that thriving metropolis is being ravashed by Hurricane Sandy.) To get back to Google products, for me there is no better place to start than the Chr...
In my post yesterday I wrote a reflection on the latest Google Teacher Academy in New York. The more I think about it, it was a mind blowing
experience! We absorbed so much useful information both informally through
networking and sharing, and formally from the various talented
presenters. Today’s post will mention but a

A Google Teacher Academy (GTA) is definitely something that every teacher interested in technology integration should strive to attend at some stage of their teaching career. I have just been privileged to attend one in New York and have come back somewhat exhilarated and enthused, and quite amazed at the enormous amount of learning that happened in that short whirlwind of time.
So what exactly is a Google Teacher Academy?
