This is a guest post from a Schoolnetter, Brenda Hallowes, who teaches ICT at Cotswold Preparatory School in Port Eizabeth. Brenda has a blog ‘Cotswold Lab Notes’ and when I read this post in November I asked her if I could use it as a guest post since it highlights the practice of ‘Mystery Skype’ in action. Mystery Skype can also be conducted using a Google hangout!

This is a reflection by Fiona Beal from SchoolNet on the initial workshop of the African Storybook project held in Johannesburg last month.

If you had tiptoed to the door and peeped inside to see what was happening you might have seen a group of adults sitting totally engrossed in a very...

SchoolNet SA was delighted to be awarded the WCED tender to supply every government school in the Western Cape with one tablet computer and to conduct training for WCED department officials. The drawback however was that the deliveries had to be concluded within one week! Finding 1 527 schools on a map was going to be difficult enough let alone tracking down the principals in order for them to sign to verify delivery.

These movies were created and carved by Grade 11 students in the Eastern Cape, and filmed using the guidance and resources of the Nab’Ubomi crew, at their respective schools. The Nab’Ubomi Film Development Projec...

This happened to me at the Apple Leadership Tour Day last term when I met three such educators from Mickelfield Primary – namely, two teachers who have done quite a few of the courses and their principal Jeanette ...

The Google Teacher Academy is not really all that well known in South Africa yet, but in countries like the USA, Britain and Australia, teachers who are interested in integrating the curriculum with technology clamour to attend. Just as Microsoft has its popular products and free tools, Google provides very useful programs such as Blogger blogs, Google Forms, Google Chrome with its huge selection of extensions designed to make browsing a dream, and Google Reader as a place to r...

With Mandela Day coming up the SchoolNet Johannesburg branch felt we wanted to make our 67 minute contribution to society along with the rest of South Africa. After searching for charities that are around and near the SchoolNet offices in Braamfontein we finally decided that we would spend our 67 minutes of Mandela Day 18 July at Sunshine Association, located in the leafy suburb of Craighall, Johannesburg. This was a decision we’ll never regret making...
